"Alex, are you okay?" John blurted out.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Still weak. But, I'm okay. What's happening?"

He sighed and ran his hands down his face. "It has been a looong few days," he quipped.

"Yeah, I'm sorry."

"Not your fault. Just…" he glanced over at Serentis. "Can I have some time with Alex?"

Serentis nodded and stepped out from behind me. He balanced me back against the wall. "I will be outside if you need me."

I nodded, "Thanks."

He left the room.

John sat in front and looked at me.

"How do I look?"

He laughed, "Like shit. I wouldn't recommend you go see your mother until you have a chance to clean up."

I nodded, "Point taken. So what's going on? Why did we need to talk alone?'

He sighed and rubbed his hands over his face. "Your mother is not taking any of this too well."

I sighed and glanced away. My mother was old school. You were born, got an education, met a guy, got married and hey presto - happy for life. I had been the rebel of the family from as far back as I could remember. When my mother would take me shopping for clothes, we would have arguments in the store over what I should get. My mother could never understand why I rebelled from the norm. My other sisters, mostly, agreed with whatever she said, to keep the peace. But with me. Well, there was something inside me that caused me to be different. Something neither I nor my mother ever understood.

This would just be another aspect we would disagree about.

I took a deep breath. "John look, mum and me… we've never gotten on that well. You know that. You've witnessed some of our arguments. I don't have a choice with what's happened John. Am I angry… yes. I am, I suppose. Oh hell, I do not understand if I am or not, John. It's all just happened so fast, you know."

"I know, Alex. But… well, there's no easy way to tell you this. Your mum has gone to the police and put in a complaint about Serentis. She claims he kidnapped you and turned you against your will." He sighed.

I gaped at him. "But, didn't you tell her he didn't kidnap me and…"

"Yes I did, Alex. She's not listening anymore. She thinks I'm confused." He grinned. "She thinks I'm too vampire oriented," he added as he laughed. "Her words, not mine."

I smiled. "John, you are human oriented. You care about everyone… human or vampire."

He nodded. "Yeah, that makes me a sucker, I guess."

I laughed, "No, not a sucker, John. A friend."

He smiled, reached over and shrugged me on the shoulder, with his hand. "Thanks."

I smiled again. "Now, what can we do to fix this?"

"First, you will need to go to the station and show they did not kidnap you. The rest I have no idea. The point is, they turned you against your will. So, I have no idea what to do about that."

The silence lengthened between us.

"What if I could convince mum to withdraw her complaint?"

"Wouldn't help.
